JEWELRY CARE GUIDE

How to Care for Your Jewelry

Our pieces are waterproof, rust-proof and hypoallergenic, made for Indonesia's humid climate. With a few simple habits, they'll keep their shine for years. Here's exactly how to wear, clean and store every material.

THE BASICS

Why jewelry care matters

Every piece of jewelry reacts to its surroundings. Sweat, humidity, perfume, chlorine and even the natural oils on your skin slowly dull metal and wear down plating. Sterling silver also tarnishes when it reacts with sulphur in the air, which shows as a grey or dark film.

In a tropical climate like Indonesia's, that happens faster. The good news: tarnish and dullness are almost always on the surface. A gentle clean and the right storage keep your jewelry bright, protect the finish and help it last much longer.

EVERYDAY HABITS

4 habits that keep your jewelry shining

  1. 01

    Last on, first off

Put your jewelry on after perfume, lotion, hair spray and make-up have dried, and take it off first at the end of the day.

  2. 02

    Wipe after wearing

A quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth removes sweat and skin oils before they can build up and dull the shine.

  3. 03

    Avoid harsh chemicals

Chlorine, bleach, cleaning sprays and strong soaps can damage plating and stones. Remove your pieces before cleaning the house.

  4. 04

    Dry it completely

Our waterproof pieces can go in water, but always pat them dry afterwards, especially after the sea or a pool.

STEP BY STEP

How to clean your jewelry at home

You only need lukewarm water, a mild soap and a soft cloth. Clean everyday pieces every 2–4 weeks, or whenever they look dull.

  1. Soak. Mix a few drops of mild, fragrance-free soap into a bowl of lukewarm water and soak your jewelry for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Brush gently. Use a very soft toothbrush to loosen dirt around clasps, links and stone settings.
  3. Rinse. Rinse under clean, lukewarm water. Close the sink drain first so nothing slips away.
  4. Dry. Pat dry with a lint-free microfibre cloth, then leave it to air-dry fully before storing.
  5. Polish. Finish with a soft polishing cloth for extra shine. Polish plated pieces lightly so you don't wear down the finish.

Avoid: toothpaste, baking soda, vinegar and ultrasonic cleaners on plated or pearl jewelry. They are abrasive or acidic and can remove the plating or damage the surface.

CARE BY MATERIAL

How to care for each material

Stainless Steel 316L

Our waterproof favourite. Surgical-grade 316L steel is rust-proof, tarnish-resistant and safe for sensitive skin, so you can shower, swim and sweat in it.

  • Rinse with fresh water after the sea or pool
  • Wash with mild soap when it looks dull
  • Dry well to keep the finish bright

925 Sterling Silver

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time, especially in humid air. Wearing it often actually helps keep it bright.

  • Polish with a silver polishing cloth
  • Store in an airtight pouch or zip bag
  • Keep away from rubber and wool, which speed up tarnish

Gold-plated & Brass

A layer of gold over a brass base gives a luxe look at an everyday price. The plating is the part to protect.

  • Keep away from perfume, lotion and chlorine
  • Clean with water and mild soap only
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and rough cloths

Pearls

Pearls are soft and porous, so they need the gentlest care of all, and they love being worn.

  • Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth after wearing
  • Never soak pearls or use soap and chemicals
  • Store flat, separate from metal pieces
STORAGE

How to store your jewelry

Good storage prevents scratches, tangles and tarnish, and in a humid climate, it makes the biggest difference of all.

  • Separately. Keep each piece in its own pouch or a lined compartment so harder metals and stones don't scratch softer ones.
  • Dry and cool. Store away from humidity, direct sunlight and bathrooms. A silica gel sachet in your jewelry box absorbs moisture.
  • Closed. Use an airtight pouch or box for silver to slow down tarnish.
  • Tangle-free. Fasten necklace and bracelet clasps before storing, or hang chains individually.
  • On the go. Travelling? Use a small travel case so pieces don't knock together in your bag.
